A new trial to be held in
Utah!
The history of
USBCHA-sanctioned trials in Utah is pretty slim. I don't
know much about the very early trial history in Utah, but some
of you remember the trials that Max Bywater and his family put
on in Tremonton, Utah. Max's trials were very well done and
well-attended by handlers in the west.
Since we lost Max, sanctioned
trials have been rare in Utah. The first two years of the
Soldier Hollow
Classic were sanctioned, but they have since gone to an
invitational format so they are no longer considered
USBCHA-sanctioned.
Several members of the
Utah Stockdog Association
(USA) have been scouting for a location to put on a
sanctioned trial for quite some time now. Locations that can
accommodate such an event are not easy to find. However, two
fairly new members to USA,
Brent and Patsy Dickens, have come forward with their dream to
host a sanctioned event at their facility, Kelley Creek Farm, in
Huntsville, Utah and have asked the
USA to help.
USA and the Dickens
will work together to put on a trial over the 4th of July
weekend - see the details in our
flyer and
entry form. We'll have range un-dogged yearling lambs. We
are planning to have Novice, Pro Novice, Nursery and Open. The
outrun for Open will be about 275 yards.
Patrick Shannahan has agreed to be
our judge. We're hoping to complete the trial on Saturday and
Sunday, but are prepared to run some of the classes on Monday,
July 3rd. This will depend on the number of entries we get.
The farm is in the Wasatch
Mountain foothills about 45 minutes from downtown Salt Lake
City. It's a beautiful site with large trees, a creek running
through the property and several ponds. Brent and Patsy are
doing a lot of preparation to the site to accommodate camping
and the trial.
Driving directions are in the flyer located here.
